12. Key elements and conventions
Conventions and key elements of a fashion magazine:
- masthead- the title of the magazine, usually the largest text on the page
- plugs- blocks of text that show what appears in the magazine
- splash- the main story on the front page- usually links to the image used
- fonts- usually magazines use a few different fonts to separate blocks of text and to make the page more interesting to look at
- contents page - a list showing what appears inside the magazine
- the main image usually shows a celebrity or someone well-known within the genre
- colour theme changes with season - usually 3 or 4 bright, contrasting colours
- social media and apps are featured
- barcode, date, price, and magazine webpage are shown
Contents page:
- in a list
- list is usually to one side with one image next to it
- some magazines such a Vogue don't have a contents page, and instead have adverts
